The Symbolism Behind Native American Fetish Animals

Certain tribes are very closely associated with Native American fetish animals. The Hopi, Zuni, Inuit, and Navajo are particularly known for their fetish animals. They consider that these fetish animals are connected with the six sacred directions, which include the four points of the compass as well as the upper and lower worlds. Indian fetish animals are also considered to have certain traits. Each animal’s species is endowed with certain characteristics. These characteristics are thought to give protection to an individual or tribe.

Native American fetish animals hold a special place in many Indian tribes. While these fetish animals can be considered to be good luck charms, they hold a more significant place in Indian culture. The closeness felt by the Native American to the natural world, manifests itself in these fetishes. The different animals in our world were respected and admired by the American Indians. Fetish art may have abounded due to the animal’s ability to survive the harsh environment of the southwest desert. A fetish animal was carried in a medicine bag, very often.

It is not surprising that Indians would seek help while living in a sometimes hostile world. Inspiration was found in the animals around them. Native American animal fetishes seek to hold some of the animal’s qualities and resourcefulness. The animal’s spirit will also communicate with the unseen world. Representing aggression and tenacity is the badger. Love is found in the deer fetish and gentleness as well. The bear, which gives courage and strength, is one of the most familiar Native American animal fetishes. The list of animal fetishes is long, and you can easily find one to mirror the quality you seek.

The most common material Native American fetishes are made of is stone however, many options are available in wood or bone. Semi precious stone is often used, making the fetish even more beautiful. Today, skilled Indian artists are still making animal fetishes. A wide variety of individual styles are available, as well as a choice of materials. The beauty of fetishes is shown in materials such as turquoise, agate and quartz.

Animal fetishes are no longer confined to Indian tribes but are available to anyone. Having a Native American animal fetish can bring a measure of comfort to you. Besides free standing animal fetishes, animal fetish necklaces are now made by talented Indian artists. Having a collection of fetishes in the home can add interest as well as decoration. Undoubtedly, the beautifully made and polished fetishes can calm and soothe when held in the hand. These objects are equally appropriate when arranged on the table or shelf or when kept close in a pocket or purse. The thought and symbolism that goes into every Native American fetish animal can bring some of the spirit of the Southwest to you and your home.

The Key Requirements that are Needed in an Animal Shelter

While we love the idea of having pets in our homes and lives few of us are prepared for the various changes that must be implemented for these animals to live with us. When this happens many people will just abandon their pets. Sometimes this happens when the pet loses it baby appeal or when the novelty of having a pet has worn off. Regardless of the reason these pets eventually find their way to an animal shelter.

These animal shelters have been created to deal with the many animals and pets that are discarded once their human owners have gotten tired of having them around. The trained staff at the animal shelter will look after the animals that are found on the streets. Their health will be seen to by the vets at the animal shelter and once they have been checked out health wise, they will be cleaned up and groomed.

As most of these animals are bewildered by the various circumstances that have befallen them, they are for the most part timid and accepting of the care and good food that is provided. While these immediate needs are seen to an animal shelter is not a place where an animal must spend the entire lives.

One of the key requirements that are found in an animal shelter is a place where the various large sized animals like dogs can stretch their muscles and have some exercise. For the smaller animals there large cages that have exercise toys and environmental designs.

There will be a full time animal vet who will look after the medical health needs of the animals in the animal shelter. In addition to the presence of a vet there will other members of the animal shelter staff who will see to the happiness of these animals.

The staff will also make sure anyone who wants to adopt these animals is proven to be ready for the full responsibility of their care. This care includes seeing to the food, toys, medical and health requirements of the pets. In addition the happiness, emotional and mental conditions of the pets need to be addressed.

Once all of these concerns have been thought of and carefully considered the new adoptive family may take their new family member home for a trial time period. After the animal’s happiness is assured the animal shelter staff will allow the animal to go to its new homes. These are the services that animal shelters provide to the many animals that are in need of a loving family.
